The Savage Nomads are a cheerful but delicate quintet from London. And we’re a Brighton magazine, right? Well, our own Republic of Music are about to release a brand new single for these guys in November, so we should all get to know them. Their song Porno shares its name with a bunch of great songs from other bands (the glitchy Clinic one, Bardo Pond’s tantric version, etc.), but the style is subtly unique. What seems poppy at first glance actually hides layers of funky grooves and clever instrumental arrangements. It’s not often that you see a band where every member is credited as a vocalist as well, plus three guitars seems almost extravagant, compared to many other bands (excluding the full-on Jefferson Airplanes here and there). And Porno proves that The Savage Nomads know how to work with variety, as it takes some time to figure out where the verse becomes a chorus, partly because you’re probably swooning under the presence of a gentlemanly deep voice, reminiscent of a young Morrissey. The guys are fresh back from hanging out with Fugazi in New York, so go catch them at The Hope on the 17th or down at Pav Tav on the 18th of October!
