Get Free: Brighton Gig Picks This Week – 16/3/2015

Another week in Brighton brings another fantastic lineup of gigs, from grunge, to rock, to psych, everything you want this city can cater for. It was hard as nails trying to organise what to put in this post due to the phenomenal proportion of gigs taking place, one that doesn’t feature in here but will be fantastic is Dead Meadow at Green Door on Wednesday, they are supported by Tusks. Anyhow, without further a due, here’s our recommendations…

Monday 16/3/15 – BLEACH play host to some spectacular local bands in the form of BAYY, Abbatoir Blues, Our Girl and Sulky Boy. After recently seeing BAYY down at The Joker back in January, I cannot advocate and support going to see these enough. They bring the perfect quadruple distilled alt rock and have a real presence and power to support it live. Abbatoir Blues bring their post punk cynicism, Our Girl have a lovely swooning soundscape within their sound and finally Sulky Boy, these bunch have a lovely lo-fi guitar pop, a lot of Mac Demarco, White Fence. Furthermore, this gig is entirely sweet and free, get into the bands below.

Tuesday 17/3/15 – We Calm and Jack Rocks bring in Londoners: Is Tropical to The Joker this Tueday. The fantastic electronic pop four piece who have graced our music scene since 2009 have released two albums to date and have recently launched their new single: ‘Black Anything Pt.1’. This gig is set to sell out as the band are packed into the intimate Joker venue. On the night the band are supported by Brighton’s very own Faux Falls who are fresh from their first date up in London and also the two piece: CIRQUS who bring their electic synth-pop. £5 in advance.

Thursday 19/3/15 – Monkey Garbage present: The Island Club. The Island Club bring their fantastic psych pop to The Hope and Ruin, think a little bit Peace, Alt-J and Everything Everything. This band are certainly one to watch this year in Brighton as they go from strength to strength. Their debut single ‘Ecstasy’ is currently available to download from their Soundcloud so get stuck in. On the night they are supported by The Light Parade and Plunge. £5 OTD so get on down.
