So Wire are playing an intimate gig tonight and tomorrow at The Prince Albert. That’s pretty damn cool. Still, dig beneath the surface of Brighton’s weekly gigs and you find some unpolished, rugged gems and they are equally as amazing. Here’s what we think this week:
Tuesday 14/4/15 – Acid Box and Fuzz Club come together with a real treat – again! This week they are shipping in Italy’s Sonic Jesus at The Hope and Ruin. Sonic Jesus are a neo-psychedelic band from Doganella di Ninfa, Italy. Think Velvet Underground, covered by Spacemen 3, dressed in neo-psychedelia, folk imprinted and shoegaze nuances. Their powerful wall of sound created by hypnotic melody and wild saturation of dark pulsating noise will take you on an unforgettable musical journey. On the night they are supported by Southampton shoegazers: Dead Rabbits, krautrock fuzzers: Red Deer People and one of our favourites, grasshopper. Get these tickets in advance for a measly price of 6 smackers.
Friday 17/4/15 – The Magic Gang come on down and party at BLEACH! What more needs to be said?! Fresh off tour with NME darlings, Wolf Alice, they are set to become something pretty super special. Music for your body, mind and spirit, this four piece bring monstrous see-sawing guitar lines and a cracking sense of a good time. £7 ADV. Check out their new single, ‘No Fun’ below – it’s ruddy good.
Sunday 19/4/15 – Love Thy Neighbor present Screaming Females at The Hope and Ruin. Screaming Females’ seven years as a band, four full-length albums and 700 globe-spanning live shows has made them difficult to miss. Through it all, the New Brunswick, New Jersey trio have continued to exude a frenetic energy which is built upon the zeitgeist of America’s punk and indie underground yet has always remained forward-looking. They are supported by The Pearl Harts and Dog Legs. Seven damages in advance.
