Why Should I Be Excited About… La Luz at Bleach, 16/10/15

La Luz are a four piece all female band signed to Burger Records – they are coming all the way from Seattle to our Brighton shores this coming Autumn and here’s our reasoning as to why you don’t wanna miss out…

Their latest single ‘Don’t Wanna Be Anywhere’ lures you in at the start in a haunting, Fat White Family-esque way, guitars jingle and jangle eerily like last year’s B&Q Christmas decor that nobody has bothered taking down yet. From the first 30 seconds onwards you are launched into a surf/dream haze, reminiscing moments of Debbie Harry’s echoing vocals from ‘Heart of Glass’ linger like dying rolls of rumbling thunder, perhaps some Thee Oh Sees chucked about for good measure. What is unmistakable however is that gorgeous sun kissed feel, nothing too sharp – everything is performed in a cautious, melodic fashion. There are some very reassuring, throwbacks to My Bloody Valentine, not so much the ‘Only Shallow’ stuff, nothing too heavy – just the inwards/outwards motion of ‘Swallow’, ‘Swoon’ et al. La Luz are great and we sure can’t wait to hear more of their stuff later this Summer as their Ty Segall produced LP ‘Weirdo Shrine’ arrives on the 7th of August.

La Luz play Bleach on the 16th of October.
