Love Thy Neighbour and Teen Creeps team up next Wednesday to bring you a special, special little gig. These cats have put on Best Friends at The Hope and Ruin for your viewing and listening pleasure – get ready for them senses to get tickled and jibed, they’ll love these. Best Friends hail from the beautiful Norf in the format of everyone’s favourite Steel City – Sheffield. Best Friends stick together garage sounds with a nourishing pop sensibility, sugar coating everything. There’s a sense that these dudes are bound and determined, desperate to put the fun into garage pop, they want you up off your sofa, kicking and screaming; they want to give you a tour of the filth and decay but put a walloping, great big ‘who-gives-a-shit’ mentality behind it.
Currently touring in support of their latest LP ‘Hot. Reckless. Totally Insane.’ Best Friends have a real thing for album titles, and perhaps, the title is the perfect summary for what to expect from their live show. Tracks on the album such as ‘Holy Mountain’, ‘Fake Spit’ and ‘Nosebleed’ act as testament to the fact that fantastic, catchy three minute pop songs can still exist – in the style of Palma Violets and Bass Drum of Death – there’s a quick tempo with slurring vocals spattered around over the top.
In support we have Birdskulls who are heading out in nationwide support of Best Friends. Birdskulls demonstrate a taste for fuzz, fun times and a taste for a recklessness, definitely ones not to turn your nose up at. First up however, Bar Rats entertain us with their sleazier than a decaying-strip-joint garage rock. Up and at ’em.
UNDER-FED, SHRED TIL YR DEAD
