Strange Cages unleashed the lamenting, angsty, driven new single – ‘Catharsis’ today. It is one that blends everything from Iggy Pop to Neu! and Toy as frontman, Charlie McConocchie ushers under some pseudo-sarcastic hushed breath ”I’m not a bitter person.” ‘Catharsis’ would suggest otherwise…
The to-the-point single rumbles along giving little respite between, this gives the overall feel and tension a tender kick up the arse, giving it some psychoactive warped, prison like feel. The accompanying visuals melt into one another, you kind of feel like Macbeth himself in some horrible bitter rage with paranoid, schizophrenic thoughts racing through your mind, eclipsing your vision and sense of self. It’s a real thriller of a track and one that carries all elements of Krautrock / post-punk with it.
You can catch Strange Cages supporting Night Beats tonight at The Hope and Ruin if you’re lucky enough to have grabbed yourself a ticket. If not, they play a headline gig at Brighton Electric on the 12th of February with Wax Machine and Clever Thing in support. We sure as hell recommend you get down.
